Pioneering jazz guitarist Larry Coryell is not one to rest on his laurels. He, together with bassist Mark Egan and drummer Paul Wertico, helped to give the Jazz Factory a proper sendoff, as reviewed in my column. Coryell and Wertico have collaborated on Coryell's latest release,Impressions (Chesky SACD 337). This is an unusual recording in Coryell's lengthy [read more]

Ive always ignored the 1980s work of Larry Coryell. I wasnt keen about that period. Jazz and Rock were too slick those days. EQUIPOISE is a exception. Larry returned to honest and pure jazz here. No crazy breaks or hard fast guitar licks here.
The album is full of [read more]

The Eleventh House performed live in Europe during 1975. Well, I could analyze the whole record here, but that isn't necessary here.

BAREFOOT BOY from 1971 is one of Larry Coryell's best albums. With a lot of good musicians with him BAREFOOT BOY became a very exciting record. There are only three songs on it, but they rock!
'Gypsy Queen' starts off with Steve Marcus soloing. Rumour has it that Mervin Bronson [read more]

The CD just arrived today with Larry's Herbert J. Hancock. It's dedicated "In Loving Memory Of James W. Ray." The CD sleeve is nicely done, and Larry's looking well with his moustache and goatee.
As for the music, my fiance and I agree that this is his best work in years. [read more]
